This bill amends section 163.3162 of the Florida Statutes to revise the definition of "farm product" to include "plants and plant products" and specifies that these can be either edible or nonedible. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the collection, storage, processing, and distribution of farm products are activities of bona fide farm operations that cannot be prohibited, restricted, or regulated by governmental entities, provided these activities adhere to best management practices or are regulated by federal agencies.
Furthermore, the bill reenacts a reference in section 163.3177(7)(b) to ensure that the updated definition of "farm product" is incorporated into the definition of "rural agricultural industrial center." This center is characterized as a developed parcel of land in unincorporated areas with agricultural industrial facilities that employ at least 200 full-time workers and process farm products or biomass materials for energy production. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
