The bill amends section 465.1865 of the Florida Statutes to revise the definition of "chronic health condition" in the context of collaborative pharmacy practice. Specifically, it excludes certain heart conditions, namely heart failure, coronary heart disease, and cardiac rhythm disorders, from the definition of chronic health conditions that pharmacists can collaboratively manage. The list of conditions that remain included consists of arthritis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, type 2 diabetes, HIV/AIDS, obesity, and any other chronic conditions designated by the relevant boards.
The effective date for this amendment is set for July 1, 2025. This change aims to clarify the scope of collaborative pharmacy practice by delineating which chronic health conditions pharmacists can address, thereby potentially streamlining the management of chronic health issues while excluding specific heart-related conditions from this practice.
