This bill aims to enhance protections for victims of domestic violence and dating violence in Florida by establishing a feasibility study for a web-based 911 alert system. The Division of Telecommunications within the Department of Management Services is tasked with consulting various public safety entities to explore the creation of this alert system, which would facilitate real-time data sharing between public safety answering points (PSAPs) and law enforcement. The system is designed to provide victims with a unique telephone number and a user-generated code to signal their need for immediate assistance. The division is required to report the findings of this feasibility study to the Legislature by January 31, 2026.
Additionally, the bill amends several sections of Florida Statutes to include dating violence alongside domestic violence in various contexts, such as legislative findings, definitions, and the address confidentiality program. It allows victims of dating violence to apply for the Attorney General's address confidentiality program and mandates that designated agencies assist these victims. The bill also ensures that information about the address confidentiality program is provided to victims of both domestic and dating violence. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
