This bill aims to enhance protections for victims of domestic violence and dating violence in Florida by establishing a feasibility study for a web-based 911 alert system. The Division of Telecommunications within the Department of Management Services is tasked with consulting relevant entities to assess the viability of this alert system, which would facilitate real-time data sharing between public safety answering points (PSAPs) and law enforcement, create unique user connections to PSAPs, and allow users to signal their need for immediate assistance through a numerical code or phrase. The division is required to report the findings of this study to the Legislature by January 31, 2026.
Additionally, the bill amends several sections of Florida Statutes to include dating violence in existing laws related to domestic violence. It revises legislative findings to recognize victims of dating violence, redefines terms to include dating violence, and allows victims of dating violence to apply for the Attorney General's address confidentiality program. The Attorney General is also mandated to designate agencies to assist these victims in the application process. Other amendments ensure that information about the address confidentiality program is provided to victims of both domestic and dating violence, thereby enhancing their safety and privacy. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
