The proposed bill establishes a new section, 790.075, in the Florida Statutes, which defines "sensitive location" and prohibits the possession or use of firearms in such areas. Sensitive locations include a wide range of places such as healthcare facilities, government buildings, parks, places of worship, educational institutions, and venues for public transportation, among others. Violating this prohibition would result in criminal penalties, with a third-degree felony for general violations and a second-degree felony for discharging a firearm in these locations.

The bill also outlines specific exceptions to this prohibition, allowing certain individuals, such as law enforcement officers, retired law enforcement officers, and members of the military on active duty, to possess firearms in sensitive locations under defined circumstances. Additionally, employees of licensed security agencies and individuals operating government-funded programs in sensitive locations may also be exempt, provided they comply with relevant regulations. The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2025.
