This bill provides for the relief of the Estate of Mark LaGatta by appropriating $2.2 million from the General Revenue Fund to compensate the estate for injuries and damages sustained by Mr. LaGatta due to the negligence of the Department of Transportation. The bill outlines the circumstances of the accident that led to Mr. LaGatta's severe injuries, including the amputation of his left leg, and the subsequent legal proceedings that resulted in a judgment against the Department of Transportation. The department had previously paid $120,000 to Mr. LaGatta under Florida Statutes, with the remaining amount now payable to his estate.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions that limit the total amount paid for attorney fees related to this claim to no more than 25 percent of the total amount awarded. It also states that the compensation provided by the Department of Transportation and the amount awarded under this act are intended to cover all present and future claims arising from the incident. The bill will take effect upon becoming law.
