1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to pretrial detention; amending s.
3 907.041, F.S.; revising the definition of the term
4 âdangerous crimeâ to include extortion and written
5 threats to kill; providing an effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
8
9 Section 1.âParagraph (a) of subsection (4) of section
10 907.041, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
11 907.041âPretrial detention and release.â
12 (4)âPRETRIAL DETENTION.â
13 (a)âAs used in this subsection, âdangerous crimeâ means any
14 of the following:
15 1.âArson;
16 2.âAggravated assault;
17 3.âAggravated battery;
18 4.âIllegal use of explosives;
19 5.âChild abuse or aggravated child abuse;
20 6.âAbuse of an elderly person or disabled adult, or
21 aggravated abuse of an elderly person or disabled adult;
22 7.âAircraft piracy;
23 8.âKidnapping;
24 9.âHomicide;
25 10.âManslaughter;
26 11.âSexual battery;
27 12.âRobbery;
28 13.âCarjacking;
29 14.âLewd, lascivious, or indecent assault or act upon or in
30 presence of a child under the age of 16 years;
31 15.âSexual activity with a child, who is 12 years of age or
32 older but less than 18 years of age, by or at solicitation of
33 person in familial or custodial authority;
34 16.âBurglary of a dwelling;
35 17.âStalking and aggravated stalking;
36 18.âAct of domestic violence as defined in s. 741.28;
37 19.âHome invasion robbery;
38 20.âAct of terrorism as defined in s. 775.30;
39 21.âManufacturing any substances in violation of chapter
40 893;
41 22.âHuman trafficking;
42 23.âExtortion in violation of s. 836.05;
43 24.âWritten threat to kill in violation of s. 836.10; and
44 25.âAttempting or conspiring to commit any such crime; and
45 23.âHuman trafficking.
46 Section 2.âThis act shall take effect July 1, 2023.
