The Kentrell Devaughn Way Designation Act of 2026 aims to honor the memory of Kentrell Devaughn by designating the 1500 block of 45th Street NE, between Douglass Street NE and Quarles Street NE in Ward 7, as Kentrell Devaughn Way. Kentrell, a resident of Ward 7, was a beloved community member who tragically lost his life to gun violence on April 20, 2021, on the same block where he was born and raised. The designation serves to recognize both the impact he had on the youth in the Kenilworth community and the loss felt by the community due to his untimely death.

The bill includes a provision that allows for the symbolic designation of the street in accordance with the Street and Alley Closing and Acquisitions Procedures Act of 1982. Additionally, it incorporates a fiscal impact statement as required by the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975. The act will take effect following approval by the Mayor and a 30-day congressional review period, ensuring that the community's tribute to Kentrell Devaughn is formally recognized.
