The Prearrest Diversion Task Force Recommendations Temporary Amendment Act of 2026 amends section 1507 of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the District of Columbia Establishment Act of 2001. The bill changes the deadlines for the Prearrest Diversion Task Force to issue initial recommendations for the prearrest diversion of certain misdemeanor offenses and categories of persons. Specifically, the deadline is extended to "No later than June 2025" for one subsection and "No later than July 31, 2026" for another, replacing the previous deadlines that were tied to the applicability date of the Secure DC Omnibus Amendment Act of 2024.
Additionally, the bill amends Title 20 of the District of Columbia Official Code to allow for the notice of requests for formal probate, as well as notices from foreign personal representatives of decedents who owned property in the District. This includes provisions for notifying interested persons, creditors, and unknown heirs through a legal periodical or newspaper of general circulation in the District. The act will take effect following approval by the Mayor and a 60-day congressional review period, and it will expire after 225 days of its enactment.
