The Public Service Commission Holdover Period Extension Temporary Amendment Act of 2026 amends existing law to extend the holdover period for commissioners of the Public Service Commission. Specifically, it allows a commissioner to serve in a holdover capacity for up to 270 days after the expiration of their term, overriding previous limitations set forth in subparagraph (1) of paragraph 97(a) and section 2(c) of the Confirmation Act of 1978. This change is intended to provide greater flexibility in the appointment process for commissioners.
The act will take effect upon approval by the Mayor and a subsequent 30-day congressional review period, and it is set to expire 225 days after its enactment. The Council has adopted the fiscal impact statement from the Budget Director as part of the legislative process.
