The Entertainment Establishment Employee Safety Extension Emergency Amendment Act of 2026 amends section 28-5404 of the District of Columbia Official Code to permit retail establishments with a valid on-premises Class C or Class D retailer license, as well as certain restaurants, to refuse cash payments. The bill requires that these establishments provide written and conspicuous notice to the public, indicating that cash payments are not accepted. This notice must be displayed on the door of the establishment or on the menu.

Specifically, the bill modifies existing legal language by amending paragraph (3)(C) to replace a phrase with a semicolon and by amending paragraph (4) to replace the period with a phrase. Additionally, it introduces a new paragraph (5) that outlines the conditions under which cash payments can be refused, including the requirement for establishments to operate either 24 hours a day or at least until 3:00 am on two or more days a week. The act is set to take effect upon approval by the Mayor and will remain in effect for no longer than 90 days.
