Mayor Muriel Bowser has submitted a request to the Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, to reprogram $355,000 from the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Local Funds for Fiscal Year 2026. This reprogramming is intended to support the modernization of schools by purchasing essential equipment and supplies that cannot be acquired through capital funds. The funds will be reallocated from the School Supports division's budget, specifically from contractual services to supplies and materials, as well as equipment and machinery, due to the availability of funds from a previous allocation for swing space that is no longer needed.
The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect the DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. Although the reprogramming amount is below the $500,000 threshold that requires Council approval, it is noted that cumulative changes from prior reprogramming requests will exceed this threshold. The OCFO has expressed no objections to the request, emphasizing the importance of these funds in ensuring that modernized schools can effectively reopen and provide necessary resources for students and staff.
