Mayor Muriel Bowser has nominated Mr. Melvin McLean for appointment as a public voting member of the Commission on Re-Entry and Returning Citizen Affairs. This nomination is in accordance with the Confirmation Act of 1978 and the Office on Ex-Offender Affairs and Commission on Re-Entry and Ex-Offender Affairs Establishment Act of 2006. Mr. McLean will fill a vacant seat previously held by Keith Campbell, serving the remainder of the unexpired term until August 4, 2026, and a subsequent term that will end on August 4, 2029. The resolution for his confirmation has been proposed to the Council of the District of Columbia for consideration.
Mr. McLean is a returning citizen and community advocate with a strong background in case management and leadership. He has experience in supporting families during housing transitions and has been involved in initiatives aimed at improving reentry pathways for justice-impacted individuals. Currently a Fellow in the Georgetown University Pivot Program, he is enhancing his skills in leadership and professional development. His lived experience and commitment to advocating for equitable opportunities for returning citizens position him as a valuable addition to the Commission on Re-Entry and Returning Citizen Affairs. The resolution confirming his appointment is expected to take effect immediately upon adoption by the Council.
