The Friends of Wangari Gardens Grant Emergency Amendment Act of 2026 amends the Department of Transportation Establishment Act of 2022 to allow the Director to issue a grant specifically for the Friends of Wangari Gardens. This grant is intended for the assessment, design, and installation of a water meter and potable water source on the Wangari Gardens property, which will include a spigot for the free use of gardeners. The new provision added to Section 3(c) of the existing law explicitly permits this grant, overriding previous restrictions.

The act is set to take effect upon approval by the Mayor and will remain in effect for a maximum of 90 days, in accordance with the emergency provisions outlined in the District of Columbia Home Rule Act. The Council has also adopted the fiscal impact statement from the Budget Director, which is required for legislative procedures.
