Mayor Muriel Bowser has submitted a request to the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $3,444,096 in FY 2026 Capital Funds for the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). This reprogramming is necessary to cover swing space lease payments while renovations are ongoing at UDC's Buildings 38 and 39. The funds will be reallocated from the UDC STEM/IT Buildout project, which has been discontinued, allowing the available funds to be redirected to support the ongoing lease obligations at alternative locations, specifically at Old Congress Heights and 4225 Connecticut Avenue NW.
The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the Mayor's request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect UDC's budget or the District's financial plan. The reallocation is essential to prevent potential eviction from the leased spaces and to avoid financial strain on UDC's operating budget. The request has been submitted in accordance with the Reprogramming Policy Act of 1980, and the CFO has expressed no objections to the proposed reprogramming.
