The Prearrest Diversion Task Force Recommendations Congressional Review Emergency Amendment Act of 2026 amends section 1507 of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the District of Columbia Establishment Act of 2001. The bill changes the deadline for the Prearrest Diversion Task Force to issue initial recommendations for the prearrest diversion of certain misdemeanor offenses and categories of persons from July 2025 to July 31, 2026. This adjustment is made to ensure that the Task Force has adequate time to develop its recommendations.

Additionally, the bill amends Title 20 of the District of Columbia Official Code to clarify the means of providing notice for formal probate requests. It replaces the phrase "legal periodical of general circulation in the District" with "legal periodical or newspaper of general circulation in the District" in multiple sections (20-323(a), 20-343(a), and 20-704(a)). This change broadens the options for how notices can be disseminated to interested parties, creditors, and unknown heirs. The act is set to take effect following approval by the Mayor and will remain in effect for no longer than 90 days.
