The Charlie McCormick Way Designation Act of 2025 proposes to ceremonially designate the 2500 block of Champlain Street NW in Ward 1 as "Charlie McCormick Way." This designation honors Charlie McCormick, a long-time D.C. resident and advocate for the Adams Morgan neighborhood and bicycling. McCormick was instrumental in promoting safe cycling infrastructure and was the owner of City Bikes, a bike store he established in 1987. He was also a co-founder of the annual Bike To Work Day in the DMV region and served on the board of the Washington Area Bicycle Association.
The bill includes a resolution from the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1C, which passed in support of the street designation, fulfilling the requirements of D.C. Official Code 9-204.21(j). The act will take effect following approval by the Mayor, a 30-day congressional review period, and publication in the District of Columbia Register. The bill also adopts a fiscal impact statement as required by the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975.
