Mayor Muriel Bowser has nominated Ms. Wanda Henderson for appointment as a public member of the Commission on African-American Affairs, filling a vacancy previously held by Veda Rasheed. Ms. Henderson, a long-time resident of Washington, D.C., has over 45 years of experience in the beauty industry and has operated her own salon, Wanda's on Seventh, for over 22 years in the Shaw-Howard Community. The nomination is in accordance with the Confirmation Act of 1978 and the Commission on African-American Affairs Establishment Act of 2012, and if confirmed, Ms. Henderson will serve a term ending on July 8, 2028.

The resolution outlines her qualifications and community involvement, highlighting her numerous accolades, including the Joe R. Biden Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and recognition from the United Negro College Fund. The Council is expected to transmit a copy of the resolution to both the nominee and the Office of the Mayor upon adoption, and the resolution will take effect immediately.
