Mayor Muriel Bowser has nominated Ms. Wanda Henderson for appointment as a public member of the Commission on African-American Affairs, filling a vacancy left by Veda Rasheed. Ms. Henderson, a long-time resident of Washington, D.C., has over 45 years of experience in the beauty industry and has operated her salon, Wanda's on Seventh, for over 22 years in the Shaw-Howard Community. The nomination is in accordance with the Confirmation Act of 1978 and the Commission on African-American Affairs Establishment Act of 2012, with her term set to end on July 8, 2028.

The proposed resolution confirms Ms. Henderson's appointment and emphasizes her commitment to the community, as evidenced by her numerous accolades, including the Joe R. Biden Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and recognition from the United Negro College Fund. The resolution will take effect immediately upon adoption, and a copy will be transmitted to both the nominee and the Office of the Mayor.
