The Council of the District of Columbia has passed a ceremonial resolution to honor the life and legacy of Lawrence Moten, a prominent figure in athletics and youth development. Born on March 25, 1972, in Washington, D.C., Moten excelled as a student-athlete at Archbishop Carroll High School and later at Syracuse University, where he became the school's all-time leading scorer. He was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995 and also played for the Washington Wizards, continuing his basketball career in various leagues and overseas.

After retiring from professional play, Moten dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring young athletes, serving as an assistant coach at Gallaudet University and as general manager of basketball operations at Digital Pioneers Academy. He was known for his humility, kindness, and commitment to uplifting the youth in his community. Moten passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 53, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence and community service that continues to inspire others. The resolution recognizes his significant contributions to the District of Columbia and his role as a leader and role model.
