Mayor Muriel Bowser has submitted a request to the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $112,000 of Fiscal Year 2025 Local funds within the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), specifically for the Division of Post Secondary Education. This reallocation is necessary to ensure that sufficient resources are available to cover tuition costs for students participating in the DC Futures program. The funds will be moved from the IT Software Maintenance account to the Financial Aid account, allowing the program to meet its financial obligations for the upcoming fall semester.
The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the Mayor's request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely impact OSSE's budget or the District's financial plan. Although this reprogramming is below the $500,000 threshold requiring Council approval, it is noted that a previous reprogramming from OSSE has already been approved, which would result in a cumulative change exceeding that threshold. The OCFO has expressed no objections to the request, emphasizing the importance of timely action to avoid delays in covering tuition for students.
