Mayor Muriel Bowser has submitted a request to the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $31,113.78 of Fiscal Year 2025 Local Funds within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) specifically for Turner Elementary School. The reprogramming is necessary to adequately compensate staff who worked outside their regular hours during the summer and to support school start preparations. The funds will be reallocated from various account groups, including supplies and professional services, to ensure that staff receive the additional gross pay they are owed.

The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the Mayor's request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect the overall DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. Although the reprogramming amount is below the $500,000 threshold requiring Council approval, it is noted that this request, combined with a previous reprogramming from DCPS, would exceed that threshold. The reallocation of funds is deemed necessary to align the school budgets properly and ensure that Turner ES can compensate its staff without delay.
