Mayor Muriel Bowser has submitted a request to the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $495,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds from the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) budget. The funds are intended to be redirected from the Window Replacement project at Kenilworth Elementary School to the Major Repairs and Maintenance project, specifically to cover the costs associated with replacing doors at the school. The reprogramming is necessary because the original project description for the Window Replacement project did not include provisions for door replacements, despite the funds being allocated for this purpose.
The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the Mayor's request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect the budgets of DCPS or the Department of General Services (DGS). The reprogramming is below the $500,000 threshold that requires Council approval, but it is noted that cumulative changes to the Major Repairs project have exceeded this amount due to previous approvals. The reallocation of funds is crucial to ensure the timely completion of the door replacement project, as delays could compromise the building's security and integrity.
