The "Let Students Attend Kindergarten Emergency Amendment Act of 2025" aims to amend compulsory school enrollment requirements in the District of Columbia to accommodate specific situations for minors regarding kindergarten enrollment. The bill stipulates that for the school years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, minors who were living in another state and did not meet that state's age requirement for kindergarten enrollment, as well as those who are younger than six and enrolled in a five-day-per-week pre-kindergarten program, will be exempt from certain enrollment requirements. Additionally, the bill ensures that students who have relied on prior communications from DC Public Schools regarding feeder pattern advancement will not be disadvantaged.

The legislation also includes provisions for students who have not attended kindergarten and have not reached the age of six by May 31 to be allowed to enroll in kindergarten at the request of their parents or guardians. Furthermore, it mandates that DC Public Schools provide written notice to families of children who were previously informed they must skip kindergarten or who enrolled directly in first grade without attending kindergarten, informing them of their eligibility for kindergarten enrollment. The bill also allows students completing their terminal year at a feeder school to advance to the next school in the feeder pattern, regardless of boundary changes, and provides specific options for students transitioning from Hardy Middle School to high school.
