The "Let Students Attend Kindergarten Temporary Amendment Act of 2025" aims to amend compulsory school enrollment requirements in the District of Columbia for the school years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. The bill allows minors who have not reached the age of six by May 31 and have not attended kindergarten to enroll in kindergarten at the request of their parents or guardians. Additionally, it provides exemptions for minors who were living in another state and did not meet that state's age requirement for kindergarten enrollment, as well as for those younger than six who are enrolled in a five-day-per-week pre-kindergarten program. The bill also ensures that students who relied on prior communications from DC Public Schools regarding feeder pattern advancement are not disadvantaged.

The legislation includes specific provisions that require DC Public Schools to notify families of eligible children by July 31, 2025, if they were previously told they must skip kindergarten or were enrolled as first graders without attending kindergarten. Furthermore, it allows students completing their terminal year at a feeder school to advance to the next middle or high school in their feeder pattern, regardless of boundary changes, and provides options for students at Hardy Middle School regarding their high school advancement. The act will take effect upon approval by the Mayor and will expire after 225 days.
