Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the reprogramming of $5,324,945 in FY 2025 Capital Funds within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) budget to support modernization projects at Burroughs Elementary School and Wheatley Education Campus. Specifically, $3,500,000 is earmarked for Burroughs Elementary to accommodate an increase in building size, while $1,824,945 will be allocated to hire a new design-build vendor for the Wheatley Education Campus Child Development Center after the previous contractor was terminated. The funds will be sourced from completed or under-budget projects within the DCPS capital budget, ensuring that the overall financial plan remains unaffected.

The Chief Financial Officer has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming aligns with the District's financial policies. The urgency of this reallocation is emphasized, as delays could hinder the expansion of Burroughs Elementary's program and the timely completion of the Wheatley Education Campus project. By reallocating these funds, the District aims to meet the growing needs of its schools without impacting other ongoing projects.
