Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the Council of the District of Columbia to approve the reprogramming of $5,324,945 in FY 2025 Capital Funds within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) budget. This reallocation aims to support modernization projects at Burroughs Elementary School and Wheatley Education Campus. Specifically, $3.5 million is designated for Burroughs Elementary to accommodate an increase in building size, which has led to higher design and construction costs. Additionally, $1.82 million is allocated for the Wheatley Education Campus Child Development Center to cover expenses related to hiring a new design-build vendor after the previous contractor was terminated.

The funds for this reprogramming will be sourced from various completed or under-budget projects within the DCPS modernization budget, ensuring that the overall financial plan remains unaffected. The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has reviewed the request and confirmed its feasibility. The resolution emphasizes the urgency of this reprogramming, as delays could hinder the completion of essential educational infrastructure projects at both schools.
