The Pilot Truancy Reduction Temporary Amendment Act of 2025 aims to address truancy in the District of Columbia by establishing a pilot program involving five secondary educational institutions with high truancy rates. By August 12, 2024, the Mayor is required to identify these institutions, which must refer students aged 14 to 17 to the Department of Human Services (DHS) after they accumulate 15 unexcused absences. The Mayor must notify the selected schools at least 10 business days before the school year begins, providing necessary contacts and compliance procedures.

Additionally, the DHS is tasked with publishing a preliminary report by March 31, 2025, and a final report by August 15, 2025, detailing the interventions provided, common reasons for absences, and analyzing attendance and academic outcomes for referred students compared to their previous performance and that of similar non-participating schools. Educational institutions involved in the pilot will be exempt from certain attendance requirements for the specified age group. This act is temporary, set to expire 225 days after its enactment, and will take effect following the Mayor's approval and a congressional review period.
