The resolution recognizes Sean Norman, a Deaf queer advocate and community organizer, during the 2025 DC Black Pride celebration. Sean, a Gallaudet University graduate, has made significant contributions to the Deaf LGBTQ+ community as the founder of the first ASL Kickball team under Stonewall Sports and as the host of the ASL Queer as F*bulous Social Night. His advocacy work includes roles with the National Association of the Deaf and the D.C. Mayor's Office of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, and he currently serves as President of the D.C. Association of the Deaf. The resolution highlights his efforts to build bridges within the community through visibility and joy.
DC Black Pride, the oldest and one of the largest Black Pride events globally, celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ populations in the African American community and raises awareness about health disparities and support for youth and families. The 34th annual celebration, themed "BLACK PRIDE IS FREEDOM," will take place from May 23 to May 26, 2025, attracting over 500,000 attendees from around the world. The resolution emphasizes the importance of this event in fostering community, raising awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention, and combating homophobia and violence. The resolution takes effect immediately upon passage.
