The resolution recognizes Sean Norman, a Deaf queer advocate and community organizer, during the 2025 DC Black Pride celebration. A graduate of Gallaudet University, Norman has made significant contributions to the Deaf LGBTQ+ community, including founding the first ASL Kickball team under Stonewall Sports and hosting the ASL Queer as F*bulous Social Night. He currently serves as President of the D.C. Association of the Deaf and is involved with various organizations, including the National Association of the Deaf and the D.C. Mayor's Office of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing. His advocacy work emphasizes visibility and community building within and beyond the Deaf LGBTQ+ community.
The resolution also highlights the significance of DC Black Pride, the oldest and one of the largest Black Pride events globally, which celebrates the intersection of African American and LGBTQIA+ identities. This year's celebration, themed "BLACK PRIDE IS FREEDOM," marks the 34th annual event and is expected to draw over 500,000 attendees from around the world. The event aims to raise awareness about health disparities, support youth and families, and combat homophobia and violence. The resolution officially recognizes Sean Norman's contributions and celebrates his impact during this important cultural event.
