Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the reprogramming of $500,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) budget to address unexpected soil conditions at the Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School project. These conditions were not identified during initial geotechnical testing and require additional excavation and remediation work. The funds will be reallocated from the completed Deal Junior High School modernization project, allowing the Ludlow-Taylor project to proceed without further delays.

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has reviewed the request and confirmed that this reprogramming will not negatively impact the overall DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. The urgency of the funding is emphasized to ensure the timely completion of the Ludlow-Taylor Addition project, which has already faced delays due to the unforeseen soil issues. The Office of Budget and Planning supports this reallocation, highlighting its necessity for the project's progress.
