Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the reprogramming of $500,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) budget to address unforeseen soil conditions at the Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School project. These issues, which were not identified during initial geotechnical testing, require additional excavation and remediation work that exceeds the available contingency funds. The funds will be reallocated from the completed Deal Junior High School modernization project, ensuring that the Ludlow-Taylor project can proceed without further delays.

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect the overall DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. The reallocation is necessary to cover the unexpected costs associated with the unsuitable soil at Ludlow-Taylor, allowing the project to be completed as scheduled within the current fiscal year without impacting other projects or services within the District.
