Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $1,000,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) to support the Barnard Elementary School Addition Project. This funding will specifically enhance outdoor programming by upgrading a grass field to turf and replacing the basketball court and garden areas. The funds will be sourced from completed projects within the DCPS capital budget, ensuring that this reallocation does not negatively impact the overall budget or financial plan of the District.
The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not adversely affect the DCPS budget. The funds will be reallocated from three completed projects: Eliot-Hine Junior High School, Raymond Elementary School, and Dorothy Height Elementary School, which no longer require additional funding. This reprogramming is essential for the timely completion of the Barnard Addition project, scheduled for delivery in Summer 2026, allowing necessary negotiations to proceed without delay. The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has expressed no objections to this request, indicating it aligns with financial policies and will not disrupt other ongoing projects.
