Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $1,000,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). This reallocation aims to enhance outdoor programming at the Barnard Elementary School Addition Project by upgrading a grass field to turf and replacing the basketball court and garden areas. The funds will be sourced from completed projects at Eliot-Hine Junior High School, Raymond Elementary School, and Dorothy Height Elementary School, which no longer require additional funding. The request includes a detailed justification and is in compliance with the D.C. Official Code.

The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the proposal and confirmed that the reprogramming will not negatively impact the DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. This reallocation is crucial for the timely completion of the Barnard Addition project, which is set to be finished by Summer 2026, and will not delay any other ongoing projects. The resolution clarifies that it does not involve restoring budget cuts or establishing new programs previously denied by the Council.
