Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the reprogramming of $1,000,000 in FY 2025 Capital Funds from the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) to enhance outdoor facilities at the Barnard Elementary School Addition Project. The funds will be sourced from completed projects, specifically the Eliot-Hine Junior High School, Raymond Elementary School, and Dorothy Height Elementary School modernization projects, which no longer require additional funding. The reallocation aims to upgrade outdoor spaces, including converting a grass field to turf and replacing the basketball court and garden areas, ensuring the timely completion of the Barnard Addition project, which is set to be finished by Summer 2026.

The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the Mayor's request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not negatively impact the DCPS budget or the District's overall financial plan. The resolution emphasizes that this action is necessary for the ongoing improvements in educational facilities and does not involve restoring any budget cuts or establishing new programs previously denied by the Council.
