The On-Premises and On-Site Extended Hours Program Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 amends section 25-723 of the District of Columbia Official Code to allow the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board to extend the hours of operation, sales, service, and consumption of alcoholic beverages for specific events. These events include cultural, sporting, or tourism-related gatherings, provided that the licensee registers with the Board, pays a minimum registration fee of $100, and gives written notice at least three calendar days prior to the event. The Board is also required to notify the Metropolitan Police Department 48 hours before the extended hours take effect and to publish notice of these extended hours in the District of Columbia Register.
The new provisions include a definition of cultural events, sporting events, and tourism-related events, which are aimed at promoting various cultural expressions, athletic competitions, and significant gatherings that attract visitors. Additionally, the fees collected from this program will be deposited into the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration Fund. This act is set to take effect upon approval by the Mayor and will remain in effect for no longer than 90 days, in accordance with emergency legislation procedures.
