The resolution recognizes and honors the 50th anniversary of the Mu Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, at The George Washington University. Founded on April 20, 1975, by nine pioneering women, the Mu Beta Chapter became the first Black Greek-lettered organization on campus and has since established a legacy of excellence through its commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Over the past five decades, the chapter has engaged in numerous community initiatives, including the Walk to End HIV and voter registration efforts, while fostering leadership and civic engagement among its members.
The resolution celebrates the chapter's significant contributions to the District of Columbia and beyond, highlighting its role in developing women leaders who have made impactful contributions to their communities. In April 2025, the Mu Beta Chapter will commemorate its 50th Charter Day with a week-long celebration, bringing together current members, alumnae, and supporters to honor this milestone and reaffirm their commitment to service. The resolution takes effect immediately, reflecting the Council's recognition of the chapter's exemplary service and dedication to the community.
