Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the Council of the District of Columbia to reprogram $9,000,000 from the FY 2025 Capital Budget of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) to facilitate the expansion of MacArthur High School. This reallocation is crucial to ensure the project meets operational needs and accessibility requirements, and the funds will be drawn from completed modernization projects at Deal Junior High School, Francis-Stevens Education Campus, Whitlock Elementary School, and Garfield Elementary School, which have surplus funds available.

The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not negatively impact the overall DCPS budget or the District's financial plan. This funding is essential to prevent significant reductions in the scope of the MacArthur High School expansion, which is necessary for accommodating additional classroom spaces in the upcoming summer sessions. The resolution clarifies that this action does not restore any previous budget cuts or create new programs that were denied by the Council, and it is expected to receive favorable consideration.
