The bill seeks to modify Contract No. SO-19-002-0001847 between Events DC and the Washington, DC Convention and Tourism Corporation, known as Destination DC, by exercising the second of five one-year optional renewal periods. This renewal will enable Destination DC to continue its marketing services aimed at promoting the District of Columbia as a prime destination for meetings, conventions, tourism, and other events. The renewal period will begin upon approval from the Council and will last until September 30, 2025, with a contract value of no less than $5 million annually, as required by law.

Additionally, the bill authorizes the Washington Convention and Sports Authority to proceed with this renewal, contingent upon Council approval. Destination DC plans to broaden its domestic marketing strategy to include new cities such as Denver, San Francisco, Houston, and Ft. Lauderdale, while also enhancing its international marketing efforts in established markets like the UK, India, China, and Australia, and adding Japan as a new market. The bill emphasizes that all other terms of the existing agreement will remain unchanged, and the modification will only take effect with the necessary Council approval, in accordance with D.C. Code 10-1202.08a(g).
