Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the reprogramming of $579,000 in Fiscal Year 2025 Local Funds from the Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS) to enhance the operational capabilities of the Public Health Laboratory Division (PHL). This reallocation aims to address immediate operational needs, particularly for routine testing and emergency responses. The funds will be shifted from existing budget categories, specifically from Supplies and Materials and Other Services and Charges, to Contractual Services and Purchases of Equipment and Machinery. The request includes a detailed justification and is in accordance with the D.C. Official Code.
The Chief Financial Officer, Glen Lee, has reviewed the request and confirmed that the reprogramming will not negatively impact the DFS budget or the District's financial plan. The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) has expressed no objections, indicating that the funds are available and that the reallocation aligns with the agency's spending plans. This resolution aims to ensure the continued operation of essential forensic services without adverse effects on the District's budget, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of local fund utilization within the PHL.
