The Virtual Open Meetings Authority Extension Temporary Amendment Act of 2025 amends the Open Meetings Act to ensure that meetings are considered open to the public if the public body takes reasonable steps to allow public access to view or hear the meeting in real-time. If it is not technologically feasible to provide access during the meeting, the public body must do so as soon as reasonably practicable afterward. This amendment adds a new provision to Section 405(a) and modifies existing language to clarify the requirements for public access.
Additionally, the bill revises Section 407(a)(1) to specify that public attendance at meetings is contingent upon the public body taking steps to ensure that the meeting is accessible to the public, either during the meeting or shortly thereafter if immediate access is not possible. The act is set to take effect following approval by the Mayor and a 30-day congressional review period, and it will expire 225 days after its enactment.
