The Council of the District of Columbia has passed a ceremonial resolution to honor Coach David "Tee" Johnson for achieving his 100th win as the head coach of the Jackson-Reed High School boys' varsity basketball team. This milestone, reached on January 15, 2025, during a decisive 90-11 victory over Bell Multicultural High School, marks the fastest any coach in the school's history has reached 100 wins. Since his appointment in August 2021, Coach Johnson has led the team to an impressive overall record of 101-22, secured two DCIAA championships, and developed numerous players who have advanced to collegiate basketball programs.
In addition to his success at Jackson-Reed, Coach Johnson has gained regional recognition, including being selected as the head coach for the Capital All-Stars in the All-American Capital Classic District All-Stars game. His leadership has also propelled the team to national rankings, reaching as high as No. 22 in the Score Book Live/Sports Illustrated Power 25 in 2024. The resolution acknowledges Coach Johnson's exceptional commitment to excellence and player development, as well as his contributions to youth basketball through his coaching with Team Durant, an AAU powerhouse. The resolution takes effect immediately, celebrating Coach Johnson's achievements and contributions to the D.C. basketball community.
