16 To recognize and honor the Georgetown Day School volleyball team and congratulate the
17 student-athletes on their DC State Athletic Association Championship and record-
18 breaking season.

20 WHEREAS, Georgetown Day School is a private college preparatory school in
21 Washington, DC, that welcomes young people and empowers them in an academically rigorous,
22 diverse, and supportive learning environment;
23
24 WHEREAS, Georgetown Day School supports student-athletes both on and off the field,
25 helping them to be successful in all that they do;
26
27 WHEREAS, the Georgetown Day School varsity volleyball team competes in the
28 Independent School League AA Division;

30 WHEREAS, Coach Brandon Wiest came to the school nine years ago to reinvigorate the
31 Hoppers;
32
33 WHEREAS, the Hoppers topped the DC State Athletic Association’s state rankings,
34 appeared in Sports Illustrated’s National Top 25 Rankings, and held the top spot in the USA
35 TODAY/American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Mid-Atlantic Top 10 throughout the 2024
36 season—an outcome of the team’s consistent efforts and a confirmation of their dominance;

38 WHEREAS, Coach Brandon Wiest earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association
39 Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year award;

41 WHEREAS, the Georgetown Day School Hoppers reached the Independent School
42 League AA Division Championship match for the fourth consecutive year;

44 WHEREAS, the Georgetown Day School Hoppers reached the DC State Athletic
45 Association Championship match for the fourth consecutive season;

47 WHEREAS, the Georgetown Day School Hoppers received the American Volleyball
48 Coaches Association 2024 Team Academic Award;

50 WHEREAS, the Georgetown Day School Hoppers had five players selected to the DC
51 State Athletic Association All-State Team, three players selected to the ISL AA Division All-
52 League Team, and four players selected to the Washington Post All-Met Team;

54 WHEREAS, Georgetown Day School faced St. John’s College High School on
55 November 9, 2024, in the DC State Athletic Association AA State Championship Match and
56 defeated the Cadets 3-0, thanks to an enormous defensive effort, securing GDS’s third
57 consecutive state championship; and

59 WHEREAS, by the end of the season, with 25 wins, the Georgetown Day School
60 Hoppers earned the distinction of having the most wins in the school’s history.

62 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
63 resolution may be cited as the “Georgetown Day School Volleyball Team Recognition
64 Resolution of 2024”.

66 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the
67 accomplishments of the Georgetown Day School volleyball team and congratulates the Hoppers
68 on their victory.

70 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in
71 the District of Columbia Register.
