12 To recognize, honor, and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Office of Administrative Hearings.

14 WHEREAS, the Office of Administrative Hearings was established by the Office of
15 Administrative Hearings Establishment Act of 2004; and
16 WHEREAS, the Office of Administrative Hearings was established to improve the quality
17 of administrative adjudication in the District of Columbia and provide prompt, fair, efficient and
18 impartial hearings through a professional corps of qualified administrative law judges; and
19 WHEREAS, the Office of Administrative Hearings adjudicates contested cases involving
20 more than forty District agencies, including cases involving unemployment compensation, public
21 benefits, building and health code violations, and professional and business licenses; and
22 WHEREAS, the Office of Administrative Hearings consists of more than thirty
23 Administrative Law Judges and is overseen by the Chief Administrative Law Judge; and
24 WHEREAS, the Office of Administrative Hearings strives to enhance the quality of life in
25 the District of Columbia by providing residents with a fair, efficient and effective system to
26 manage and resolve administrative litigation arising under District of Columbia law.

27 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this
28 resolution may be cited as the “Office of Administrative Hearings 20 th Anniversary Recognition
29 Resolution of 2024”.
30 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates the 20 th
31 anniversary of the establishment of the Office of Administrative Hearings and the impact of the
32 agency on the residents of the District of Columbia.
33 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in
34 the District of Columbia Register.
