A CEREMONAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
November 12, 2024
To recognize and honor the accomplishments and dedication of Dr. Sharon Harrington Staples.
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples is the First Lady of the Temple of Praise Church located in
Southeast Washington, D.C., at 700 Southern Avenue SE, Washington, D.C., which serves as the
central campus for the Temple of Praise Fellowship of Churches International;
WHEREAS, First Lady Dr. Staples supports the ministry as Associate Pastor alongside
her husband, Bishop Glen A. Staples, Senior Pastor of the Temple of Praise Church;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples has dedicated years to various leadership roles, including
Executive Pastor, Director of Women’s Ministry, Music Ministry Advisor, and ordained
Deaconess;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples brings a wealth of organizational expertise to her
roles, drawing from over 30 years as a public servant with the U.S. Department of Defense in
Washington, D.C. where she holds dual senior executive positions as Chief Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion Officer and Equal Opportunity Director;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples’ academic background includes degrees in Information Systems
Management, Information Management, and 2 doctorates: a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral
Counseling and a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples’ research interest focuses on organizational change in U.S.
megachurches;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples is a certified leadership coach through Georgetown University's
Institute of Transformational Leadership and an Associate Certified Coach with the International
Coaching Federation;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples provides strategic consulting and coaching to church leaders,
emphasizing excellence in ecclesiastical operations;

WHEREAS, Dr. Staples is passionate about advancing women in ministry and
professional roles, offering mentorship and coaching to foster both personal and professional
growth;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples is a proud mother, grandmother, and mentor, who has dedicated
her life to service and faith;
WHEREAS, Dr. Staples firmly proclaims, “For in Him, I live, move and have my being.”
(Acts 17:28).
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution be cited as the “Dr. Sharon Harrington Staples Recognition Resolution of 2024”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Dr. Sharon
Harrington Staples for her dedication and achievements as a scholar, public servant and spiritual
leader in Ward 8.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
