17 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTR1CT OF COLUMBIA, that this
18 resolution may be cited as the "Board of Barber and Cosmetology Dennis Smith Confirmation
19 Resolution of 2024".
20 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

Mr. Dennis G. Smith III is a Professional Licensed Barber Instructor.
Mr. Smith started his barbering career at the age of 13 when his mother
first showed him how to cut his own hair. After several years of floating
from one career path to another he came to a realization with the advice
ofa lifelong friend who suggested that he take up barbering as a
profession, With that advice and encouragement, he enrolled in the
Bennett Career Institute, where he studied barbering and then later went
back to get his instructor credentials as well.
After graduating and getting his barber license, Mr. Smithworked at the
local Southeast DC barber shop, PJ's Barbers and Stylist, honing his
craft. During his tenure at PJ's, Mr. Smith was featured in the Washington Post Magazine in an
article about the revitalizationof the community in which he worked. After leaving PJ's he earned
a contract position with the United States Marine Corps at Marine Barracks | located in the Easter
Market section ofDC.
‘As a contract barber with the Marine Corps, he was responsible for cutting the hair of the
President’s Own Band and the United States Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also
responsible for styling marines for advertisements and photo shoots. Mr. Smiththen worked as a
barber instructor at Bennett Career Institute. During his tenure at Bennett, he became such an
intricate partof the institute that he was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer of the
C. Alan Systems, an associated organization.
