A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
June 11, 2024
To recognize, honor, and celebrate Meridian Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. on the
occasion of its 25th anniversary.
WHEREAS, in September 2024, Meridian Public Charter School will proudly celebrate
25 years of inspiring a passion for learning in its students since receiving its charter and opening
its doors;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS was founded in 1999 by a group of dedicated individuals who
shared a common belief that they could improve the lives of the children who reside in the
District of Columbia;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS first opened to 100 students in pre-kindergarten through third
grade and now serves over 600 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade across 2
campuses;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS celebrates and honors the diversity of its school community,
welcoming students and families from Ward 1, across DC, and around the world;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS draws on the strengths of the Meridian Hill and U Street
Corridor neighborhood and its partnerships with community organizations to support its students
and families through wrap around services and enrichment activities;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS roots itself in the District by taking students outside the 4 walls
of the classroom to learn about their community, city, nation, and world, and engaging in service
opportunities that enrich the wider D.C. community;
WHEREAS, Meridian PCS prepares its students to be active citizens of the world through
a rich and rigorous curriculum as an EL Education partner school and instills in its students the
values of curiosity, respect, resilience, and leadership;
WHEREAS, in the school year 2021-2022, nearly 9 in 10 Meridian Middle School
graduates went on to attend a selective magnet program or a Tier 1 charter high school;

WHEREAS, for the past 25 years, Meridian PCS has offered each of its students the
foundation of basic skills they need to succeed in today’s world, while at the same time
stimulating each child to learn, explore and develop their own special talents.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Meridian Public Charter School 25th Anniversary Ceremonial
Recognition Resolution of 2024”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates 25 years of
Meridian Public Charter School and its commitment to its students, to academia, and to the
communities of the District of Columbia.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
