A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
June 11, 2024
To recognize and honor Fernando Lemos for his service to the District of Columbia.
WHEREAS, Fernando Lemos is a longtime resident of the District of Columbia originally
from Paraguay;
WHEREAS, Mr. Lemos has more than 35 years of experience in nonprofit housing and
economic development;
WHEREAS, Mr. Lemos co-founded Mi Casa, Inc. in 1992 to create and preserve housing
across the District of Columbia;
WHEREAS, Mi Casa provides, facilitates, and advocates for inclusive affordable housing
for underserved communities and promotes equitable, thriving and diverse neighborhoods in the
region;
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mr. Lemos, Mi Casa created and preserved housing
in every ward in the District, creating more than 3,000 units of affordable housing and developing
nearly 30 percent of the District’s limited equity cooperatives;
WHEREAS, Mr. Lemos also served the District of Columbia as Commissioner of the
District of Columbia Housing Authority;
WHEREAS, Mr. Lemos has also served his community as a past board member of
Cornerstone and past Community Advisory Board member at the Federal Home Loan Bank of
Atlanta, and continues to serve on the board of the Latino Economic Development Corporation
and the board of the National Association of Latino Community Asset Builders.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Fernando Lemos Recognition Resolution of 2024”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors the work of Fernando Lemos and
his service to the community, particularly in support of affordable housing and wealth building for
District residents.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
