A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To recognize and honor the Georgetown Garden Club on the occasion of its 100th anniversary
for its consistent civic engagement and dedication to preserving and beautifying
Georgetown’s green spaces.
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club, founded in 1924 and cherished for its
dedication to beautifying every corner of Georgetown, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in
2024;
WHEREAS, on May 11th, 2024, the Georgetown Garden Club will host the 94th Annual
Georgetown Garden Tour;
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club will commemorate its centennial by planting
native plants and other perennials in the front beds of the Georgetown Library, engaging the
community with a “flower flash,” and sparking the imaginations of children and families through
a tree treasure hunt;
WHEREAS, the Annual Georgetown Garden Tour and the Georgetown Garden Club’s
other fundraising efforts have raised over $750,000 for the greenification of Georgetown’s tree-
lined streets and public spaces;
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club’s support benefits Book Hill Park, Dumbarton
House gardens, Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Montrose
Park, Rose Park, the Student Conservation Association, Trees for Georgetown, Tudor Place
House and Gardens Museum, and Volta Park Habitat Garden; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club has given the District the gift of beautiful
green spaces to enjoy and cherish for the last 100 years.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Georgetown Garden Club 100th Anniversary Recognition
Resolution of 2024”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates the Georgetown
Garden Club for its civic engagement and commitment to the green spaces of Georgetown on the
occasion of its 100th anniversary.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
