                   IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

                                          May 7, 2024

To recognize and honor the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District on the

       occasion of its 20th anniversary.

        WHEREAS, Mount Vernon Triangle is the neighborhood bordered by New York Avenue

to the north, New Jersey Avenue to the east, Massachusetts Avenue to the south, and 7th Street to

the west;

     WHEREAS, Mount Vernon Triangle is a vibrant, historic, and diverse 17-block

community of more than 7,000 residents;

       WHEREAS, in 2002, the DC Office of Planning and 10 property owners in Mount Vernon

Triangle developed a plan to revitalize the neighborhood – the 2003 Mount Vernon Triangle

Action Agenda;

      WHEREAS, in 2004, the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District

(“MVT CID”) was formed to maintain the quality of life for residents and businesses, foster

economic development, promote the area, and generate investment;

         WHEREAS, the MVT CID is legally a Business Improvement District, but it differs in that

it also emphasizes the inclusion of commercial and residential properties;

       WHEREAS, the MVT CID is a leader in blending people, design, retail, transportation,

and collaboration to create a diverse, lively, and safe community;

        WHEREAS, the MVT CID organizes numerous community events, including art

exhibitions, seasonal festivals, farmer’s markets, and concert series;

       WHEREAS, the MVT CID advocates for and drives investments in the community,

including through public space redesign and activation for neighborhood assets like Cobb Park;

and

       WHEREAS, the MVT CID does an exceptional job showcasing and growing Mount

Vernon Triangle’s wide array of amenities, including coffee shops, cafés, bakeries, fast casual and

fine dining restaurants, fitness centers, grocery stores, pharmacies, and hotels.

        RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this

resolution may be cited as the “Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District 20th

Anniversary Recognition Resolution of 2024”.

       Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the Mount Vernon

Triangle Community Improvement District on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

       Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
