In accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-
142; D.C. Official Code § 1-523.01), and pursuant to section 4 of the Commission on the Arts and
Humanities Act, effective October 21, 1975 (D.C. Law 1-22; D.C. Official Code § 39-203), I am
pleased to nominate the following individual:

17 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this
18 resolution may be cited as the "Commission on the Arts and Humanities Janice J. Kim
19 Confirmation Resolution of 2024".
20 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the appointment of:

28 Commission on the Arts and Humanities, established by section 4 of the Commission on the Arts
29 and Humanities Act, effective October 21 , 1975 (D.C. Law 1-22; D.C. Official Code§ 39-203),
30 filling a vacant seat, for the remainder of an unexpired term to end June 30, 2026.
31 Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia shall transmit a copy of this resolution,
32 upon its adoption, to the nominee and to the Office of the Mayor.
33 Sec. 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.

Experience:
1985 - Current
Long history of supporting non-profit endeavors, and in particular, non-profits focused on broadening the
reach of the Arts.
Biography:
Ms. Janice J. Kim has a long history of supporting non-profit endeavors, and in particular, non-profits
focused on broadening the reach of the Arts.
She is currently a member of the Board of The Washington Ballet, committee chair of Community
Engagement overseeing new programs, Dance for All and Dance Program Partnership for DC Public and
Private Schools, and a member of the board of Transformer Gallery, a non-profit gallery based in
Washington, DC that works to promote local and international emerging contemporary artists.
Previously, she was a National Council Member of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and a former co-
chair of Artrageous, the annual fund-raising gala for the same organization. She has been a long-time
supporter of Washington Performing Arts, EMerge DC Art Fair, and the National Gallery of Art. Ms. Kim
initially worked in commercial lending with First Union Bank then became CFO of a private commercial and
residential development firm, eventually retiring as COO in 2004.
A Ward 3 resident, Ms. Kim, has lived in District since 1985.
