A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION
25-133
IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
October 3, 2023
To recognize two young residents of Ward 3, Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg, for their
recent achievements in the world of chess.
WHEREAS, Lenox Serrette is a Ward 3 resident and a student at Alice Deal Middle
School;
WHEREAS, Lenox Serrette has represented the District in the Rockefeller Tournament of
Elementary Champions for 4 consecutive years, and at the 2023 tournament, Lenox placed
thirteenth out of fifty-one competitors, earning the title of the top-scoring player with a US Chess
Federation rating under 1500;
WHEREAS, at age eleven, Lenox Serrette has demonstrated immense talent and potential
in the game of chess;
WHEREAS, Nathan Ehrenberg is a Ward 3 resident and a student at School Without
Walls;
WHEREAS, this year, at age fourteen, Nathan Ehrenberg became the youngest US Chess
Federation-certified “Local” Tournament Director in the history of the District, Maryland, and
Virginia;
WHEREAS, Nathan Ehrenberg has demonstrated a deep commitment to the creation and
growth of a vibrant chess community in the District; and
WHEREAS, the achievements of Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg serve to inspire the
youth of the District to pursue their passions.
RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution be cited as the “Lenox Serrette and Nathan Ehrenberg Achievements in Chess
Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 2023”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Lenox Serrette and
Nathan Ehrenberg for their achievements in the world of chess.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
