A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
September 19. 2023
To recognize and honor Sam Ford on his retirement and his over 35 years of serving the District
of Columbia as a broadcaster.
WHEREAS, Sam Ford worked for served as the DC Bureau Chief for ABC7 News and
WJLA 24/7;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford has worked for over 50 years as a broadcaster for both radio and
television, with over 35 years covering the District of Columbia;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford worked for CBS News as a correspondent before his time at WJLA
covering areas such as New York, Atlanta and the District of Columbia;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford has covered a wide range of topics for WJLA with the District of
Columbia government, life, and crime as the main topics;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford is a founding member of the National Association of Black
Journalists;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford has won numerous industry awards including the New York,
Edward R Murrow and several regional Emmy’s;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford has served the residents of the District of Columbia with his
journalism keeping them informed on their home throughout his career;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford is an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in
Capitol Hill where he serves as a lay leader and occasional organist;
WHEREAS, Sam Ford has been key figure of covering the news of the District of
Columbia government for over 35 years;
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Sam Ford Retirement Recognition Resolution of 2023.”

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Sam Ford on his
retirement and his over 35 years of serving the District of Columbia as a broadcaster.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
