A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION

IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
July 11, 2023
To recognize and honor Donna J. Ellis for her valuable contributions and dedicated service to the
District of Columbia and to officially declare July 14, 2023 “Donna J. Ellis Day” in the
District of Columbia.
WHEREAS, Donna J. Ellis has been a resident of Washington, D.C. for over 70 years;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis has consistently demonstrated her commitment to enhancing the
lives of residents in the District of Columbia;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the District
through her involvement in community, civic, and political activities, including her service as an
elected member of the DC Democratic State Committee and her contributions to successful
political campaigns such as those of Charlene Drew Jarvis, Adrian Fenty, and Muriel Bowser;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis has held leadership positions in various political organizations,
including the Metropolitan Women’s Democratic Club and the DC Federation of Democratic
Women;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis served on the DC Commission for Women and actively
participated in numerous civic associations including Ward 4 Cares, Petworth People’s
Involvement Corporation, Project Harvest, the Ward 4 Senior Advisory Council and the
Citizen’s Advisory Panel for Washington Gas;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis is a devoted community organizer and a tireless advocate for
youth and seniors, exemplified by her creation of opportunities for middle school students to
work in the White House mail room and her testimonies before the Council of the District of
Columbia on issues pertaining to the health and wellbeing of youth and seniors;

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ellis was a devoted wife and mother to her deceased husband of 53
years, Milfred Ellis, and her two sons and grandson;
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Donna J. Ellis Day Recognition Resolution of 2023”.
Sec. 2 The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Donna J. Ellis
for her invaluable contributions to the District of Columbia, and declares July 14, 2023, as
“Donna J. Ellis Day” in the District of Columbia.
Sec. 3 This resolution shall take effect immediately.
