IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

To recognize and honor the life and accomplishments of Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr.
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was born in Aurora, North Carolina on March
19, 1935 where he was raised by his parents along with his 11 siblings;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. attended North Carolina A&T University, where
he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane
Letters from Breakthrough Bible College;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was united in holy matrimony to the late Joyce
Dudley in 1958 and remained married for 64 years;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. and Joyce Dudley had 4 children: Michelle,
Alfred Jr., Jeffrey, and Melanie;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was employed as an engineer for: the U.S.
General Services Administration, the National Institute of Health, and the United States Navy;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was instrumental in developing sales forces for
Dudley Products in DC, Maryland and Virgina;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was the #1 salesperson for many years and
earned the title of President & Most Valuable Dudley-ite, so many times that he was given
special recognition as the first and only President Emeritus at Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. purchased and became President of Dudley
Beauty College located at 2031 Rhode Island Ave NE in Ward 5;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. was instrumental in helping sales
representatives, cosmetologists, barbers, and nail technologists in building successful businesses
to become successful entrepreneurs;

WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. received the 2006 Outstanding Individuals and
Organizations for their Demonstrated Leadership in Business given by the National Association
for the Advancement of Colored People Washington DC Chapter;
WHEREAS, Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr passed on May 21, 2023 and leaves a legacy that
will live on in the beauty industry and for generations to come.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
resolution may be cited as the “Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. Posthumous Recognition Resolution
of 2023”.
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors Alfred DeGreat Dudley, Sr. for
his years of dedication to his community, family, and friends where he was a leader and pillar of
the community.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
