                  IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

                                        April 4, 2023

To recognize and honor the contributions of Patrice “Boog” Harris, a dedicated father, mentor,

       and boxing coach in the Southwest community.

       WHEREAS, Patrice Harris has served as a boxing coach for Headbangers Boxing,

the premier boxing program under the Department of Parks and Recreation at Bald Eagle

Recreation Center in Bellevue neighborhood of Ward 8;

        WHEREAS, Harris has served a coach at Bald Eagle for a total of 22 years: 4 years

as a volunteer and 18 years as an employee of the Department of Parks and Recreation;

      WHEREAS, Harris recently starred in the film “Creed 3” as a boxing coach for

Adonis Creed, who is played by actor Michael B. Jordan;

       WHEREAS, Harris also served as a behind-the-scenes boxing coach for Jordan to

prepare him for the film “Creed 2” after being personally selected by Jordan;

       WHEREAS, Harris served as a boxing coach and mentor for thousands of young

boys and families, primarily African-American, over the course of more than 2 decades;

        WHEREAS, Harris currently guides and develops several young boxers, including

Nasheed Smith, the 2022 National Champion for the 189-pound weight class and current

20th ranked pound-for-pound amateur boxer in the United States, according to BoxRec;

Quincey Williams, the current second-ranked 154-pound) amateur boxer and #10 ranked

pound-for-pound amateur boxer in the United States, according to BoxRec; Deric Davis, the

current #10 ranked 139-pound (super lightweight) amateur boxer in the United States,

according to BoxRec; and his son Patrick Harris, who was a USA Boxing national champion

and regional Golden Gloves winner as an amateur and is currently undefeated with 20 wins

in his professional career;

      RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this

resolution may be cited as the “Patrice ‘Boog’ Harris Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of

2023”.

        Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates the contributions

of Patrice “Boog” Harris to the District and the surrounding community.

      Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
