The proposed legislation establishes an Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Task Force, effective October 1, 2025, aimed at addressing the needs of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, as well as their caregivers. The task force will assess available services, evaluate healthcare provider capacity, and develop a comprehensive State Alzheimer's Plan that includes findings and recommendations on long-term care, caregiver support, public awareness, and healthcare service improvements. The plan will be updated every four years, and the task force is required to submit annual reports to the Governor and relevant legislative committees starting January 1, 2027.
The task force will consist of eleven members appointed by the Governor, including individuals with personal experience related to Alzheimer's disease, healthcare providers, and representatives from relevant organizations. The bill clarifies the language regarding the State Alzheimer's Plan by deleting a redundant reference in the reporting requirements. Additionally, the task force will include the state ombudsman and commissioners from aging, public health, and social services, and is mandated to meet at least quarterly with administrative support from the Aging Committee's staff. Overall, the bill does not impose any fiscal impact on state or municipal budgets.
